Well, it’s been a couple weeks since the Lincoln Marathon and it just occurred to me that I should post a few notes about the experience.
So, this was my first full marathon. Last year, after we had a couple half marathons under our belts, Stacey and I decided that we wanted to train for a full, and after a little reasearch we decided on Lincoln, Nebraska. We chose Lincoln because, a) it’s close b) it’s a farily flat course, and c) it’s a spring marathon so we could start training right away. So, we found a good training schedule and started our training the day after Christmas!
500 miles and 18 weeks later, it’s race day. We got up at about 5:30am and I suckered my dad and sister into driving us to the start. The race started at 7am, and it took us about 5 min to cross the start. There was about 6500 people there, so the course was crowded at times, but we got to see just about everything Lincoln has to offer.
The first half went pretty well. Our time was sub 2 hrs at the halfway point, however the second half was a little slower. I have a few excuses for the slower second half, but I won’t bore you with the details
The last few miles were pretty tough, but we had a couple friends join us near the end which really helped keep the motivation up. In the end Stacey finshed up at 4:19:49 and I ended up at 4:21:37.
All in all it was a pretty great experience and I’m actually excited to try to do it again. We’re already talking about Chicago 2010…
Here’s a few photos from the day.
